Economy and Elections. This piece provides an overview of the economy during elections. Using data from economists Ray Fair and Patrick Lynch, the author analyzes the notion that a strong economy (high GDP, low inflation) help incumbents get re-elected, while economic weakness helps the opposite party get elected. The author also asserts that a weak economy combined with high amounts of crime can also affect the outcome of a given election. The most important factor, however, is not which party can best control the economy, but which one can best control the illusion. 7 pgs. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
