The School Voucher Debate as Seen by Two Leading Economists This paper compares and contrasts the position of two leading economists of widely divergent backgrounds on school vouchers and public funding of education in general. Milton Friedman, a neo-classical economic liberal, puts forth the view that such funds should only go to for-profit schools, Nancy Folbre, a feminist economist, views public schools as a necessary adjunct to the "productive" work of child rearing and contends that vouchers would only undermine urgently needed public school reform.
